The Underwriters will pay up to the Amount of Insurance shown in Contract Endorsement 6 for any irrecoverable payment s paid or contracted to be paid for travel, accommodation and unused pre-booked excursions (including addition accommodation and travel expenses incurred for return to their country of domicile) should the projected trip be cancelled before commencement or curtailed before completion directly as a result of:

1.     Death, accidental bodily injury, illness or compulsory quarantine of:

a) The Insured Person or

b) Any member of the Travel Party, or

c) Any person with whom the Insured Person intends to reside with during the trip, or

d) Any close relative or business associate necessitating the Insured Person’s presence in their Country of Domicile.

2.     Redundancy (provided that such redundancy qualifies for payment under the Insured Person’s                                   Country of Domicile’s Redundancy Payments Acts) of:

a) the Insured Person, or

b) any member of the Travel Party.

3.     Summoning to jury service or witness attendance in a court in their Country of Domicile or unavoidable requirement to be present in their Country of Domicile for service in any military or civil emergency of:

a) the Insured Person, or

b) any Member of the Travel Party.

4.         Major damage or burglary within 7 days immediately prior to a trip at the home or place of employment of:

a) the Insured Person, or

b) any member of the Travel Party, or

c) any person with whom the Insured Person intends to reside with during the trip.

5.         Adverse weather conditions making it impossible for the Insured Person to travel to the point of departure at commencement of the outward trip.

EXCLUSIONS

The Underwriters shall not be liable to pay for:

  1. Any claims attributable to any condition or set of circumstances known to the Assured or the Insured Person at the time of effecting this Insurance or booking a trip, where such condition or set of circumstances could reasonably have been expected to give rise to cancellation or curtailment of a trip.
  2. Any claims where medical or other suitable evidence is not provided as proof of the necessity to cancel or curtail a trip.
  3. The Insured Person’s disinclination to travel.
  4. Volcanic Ash in the atmosphere making it impossible for the Insured Person to travel on their pre-booked scheduled public transport.
  5. Any claims or expenses arising directly or indirectly from any medical condition for which the Insured Person(s) has/have been given medical advice or treatment by a me3dical Practitioner or hospital during the 12 months prior to the date of purchase of cover under this Endorsement.

Missed Departure and Delay

PART 1

The Underwriters will pay either:

  1. Up to USD $500 to meet a reserved connection for travel from their Country of Domicile, or
  2. Up to USD $500 to reach the pre-booked accommodation outside their Country of Domicile, or
  3. Up to USD $500 to meet a reserved connection for return travel to the Insured Person’s home in their Country of Domicile, if at the commencement of, or during a trip to or from their Country of Domicile, the Insured Person arrives at the designated international departure point too late to meet a reserved air, sea, coach or rail journey due to the transport that the Insured Person(s) is/are travelling in being delayed or interrupted by one or more of the Insured Events listed below.

PART 2

A)    The Underwriters will pay up to USD $2,000 in accordance with the following Scale, should the scheduled public transport (e.g. aircraft, sea vessel, coach or train and the like) on which the Insured Person(s) is;/are booked for international travel be delayed as a result of one or more of the Insured Events listed below:

Scale:

  1. USD $500 for the first completed 12 hour period of delay, and
  2. USD $500 for each subsequent completed 12 hour period of delay.

B)    The Underwriters will pay up to USD $3,000 for any irrecoverable payments paid or contracted to be paid in respect of travel and accommodation in the event that the Insured Person(s) opt to cancel the trip as a consequence of delay or interruption of at least 24 hours caused by one or more the Insured Events listed below:

INSURED EVENTS

Strike, locked out workers, industrial action, riot or civil commotion, criminal act, fire, avalanche, landslide, earthquake, flood or accident to or mechanical breakdown of scheduled public transit, or adverse weather conditions making it impossible for the Insured Person to travel on their pre-booked scheduled public transit.

EXCLUSIONS

The Underwriters shall not be liable to pay for:

  1. Any claims arising out of any of the contingencies specified under Insured events if they had already started or been forecast before the original reservations were made.
  2. Withdrawal from service (temporary or otherwise) of an aircraft or sea vessel on the recommendation of the Civil Aviation Authority or any similar body in any country.
  3. Additional costs where the scheduled public transport operator has offered alternative travel arrangements.
  4. In respect of Part 2 only, any claim attributable to any condition or set of circumstances known to the Assured or the Insured Person at the time of effecting this Insurance or booking a trip, where such condition or set of circumstances could reasonable have been expected to give rise to a claim under this Section.
  5. In respect of Part 2 only, any claims arising directly or indirectly out of the Insured Person’s failure to check-in according to the itinerary supplied to the Assured or the Insured Person.
  6. Volcanic Ash in the atmosphere making it impossible for the Insured Person to travel on their pre-booked scheduled public transport.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

A claim can only be made under one of the Parts of this Section in respect to each loss.

  1. The Insured Person must allow sufficient time for the transport the Insured Person(s) is/are travelling in to arrive and deliver the Insured Person to the departure point on schedule so that the Insured Person can check-in according to the itinerary.
  2. The Assured and the Insured Person must comply with the terms of contract of the travel agent, tour operator or provider of transport.
  3. The Assured or the Insured Person must obtain confirmation from the carriers or their handling agents in writing of the number of hours of delay and the reason for the delay.

HI-JACK

In the event of the means of transportation being subjected to Hi-jack during the trip and the Insured Person being detained as a result of such Hi-jack for a period in excess of 24 hours, the Underwriters will pay an amount of USD $100 for each 24 hour day of detention up to a maximum of 21 days.

TERRITORIAL LIMITS:

This is an addition to an existing plan and follows all TERRITORIAL LIMITS as follows:  Trips taken outside the United States of America on a Worldwide bases excluding Afghanistan, Iraq, Chad, Isreal-West Bank/Gaza Strip, Nigeria, Somalia and Sudan and any other area where State Department advise not to travel unless referred to Underwriters for special acceptance and additional premium cost.
